Renewable Energy Specialists — UAE & GCC

The sun2X team combines decades of C-level experience in high-voltage battery systems, electric drivetrains, solar energy and grid infrastructure across European and international markets, now applied to the UAE renewable energy landscape. All technical content on this site is based on direct project experience with DEWA, ADDC and UAE authority approvals.

Renewable energy project planning Dubai

Quick Answer: Project Timeline UAE

How long does a renewable energy project take in Dubai?

A complete turnkey project (Solar + Battery + EV Charging) takes approximately 47 weeks from feasibility to energisation: 9 weeks (business case) + 10 weeks (DEWA approval) + 10 weeks (engineering & procurement) + 12 weeks (installation) + 6 weeks (commissioning). sun2X manages all six phases under one contract, as your single general contractor.

Why Integrated System Design Matters

Most companies that install renewable energy in the UAE specialise in one discipline — a solar installer, a battery vendor, an EV charging company or a grid consultant. Each delivers their component without full visibility of how it interacts with the others. The result is systems that underperform, approvals that conflict and finger-pointing when something goes wrong.

sun2X takes a fundamentally different approach: we act as the single general contractor for the complete energy system. Solar, battery, EV charging, grid connection and energy management are designed together from day one — optimised as an integrated whole, not assembled from separate vendor proposals. One contract, one point of contact, one performance guarantee.

01

Phase One

Feasibility & Business Case

Every project begins with a thorough site survey and financial modelling. This phase typically runs 9 weeks and produces a bankable planning report that clients use for board approval, bank financing and EDB applications.

Site Survey

  • Structural roof assessment
  • Drone shading analysis
  • DEWA connection capacity
  • EV parking audit
  • Cable routing feasibility

Financial Modelling

  • 12-month load profile analysis
  • Solar yield simulation (PVSyst)
  • Battery dispatch modelling
  • 25-year NPV & IRR projection
  • EDB financing structure

Key Planning Parameters for UAE

HVAC Load: 60–70% of total commercial consumption — critical planning factor

DEWA Peak Window: 14:00–17:00 daily — battery sizing target

Derating at 50°C: −15% switchgear capacity per IEC 60947-2

Solar Self-Supply: 40–70% of daytime load coverable from rooftop PV

EV Daily Demand: 30–60 kWh/EV/day incl. AC cooling

DEWA Approval Timeline: 8–16 weeks LOC to energisation

02

Phase Two

DEWA/ADDC Approval & LOC

Regulatory approvals are the most complex and time-consuming element of UAE renewable energy projects — and the area where inexperienced developers lose months to errors and resubmissions. sun2X has established working relationships with DEWA, ADDC, Dubai Municipality, JAFZA Trakhees and Tanweer, and manages the complete permit pack of 18–24 documents as a standard service.

A

Grid Study & LOC Application

Load-flow and fault-level analysis submitted to DEWA/ADDC. Letter of Credit (LOC) issued confirming available grid capacity and connection terms. Lead time: 4–8 weeks.

B

Protection Design Review

UAE mandates IEC 61727-compliant interface protection with auto-disconnect on grid fault. DEWA reviews single-line diagrams and relay settings. For systems above 200 kW, a protection co-ordination study is required.

C

Authority NOC

Dubai Municipality (DM) for mainland; Trakhees for JAFZA and DP World zones; Tanweer for Abu Dhabi. sun2X prepares and tracks all submissions. Typical processing: 3–6 weeks per authority.

03

Phase Three

Engineering & Procurement

Once approvals are confirmed, sun2X prepares detailed engineering drawings and procures all equipment. Supplier selection is critical — we specify only equipment validated for UAE conditions (temperature, humidity, sand ingress) and source from tier-1 manufacturers with bankable warranties.

sun2X Equipment Specification Standards

Solar Modules

  • ● Bifacial Mono-PERC / TOPCon
  • ● Temperature coeff. ≤ −0.30%/°C
  • ● Anti-soiling glass coating
  • ● 25-year performance warranty (Tier-1)

Battery Systems

  • ● LFP chemistry only
  • ● Active liquid cooling (HVAC-integrated)
  • ● IP65 minimum, IP66 outdoor
  • ● 10-year performance warranty (≥80% SOH)

Inverters & Switchgear

  • ● Rated at +55°C (IEC 60947-2)
  • ● THD ≤ 5% for DEWA compliance
  • ● IP54 minimum for all outdoor panels
  • ● IEC 61727 interface protection

EV Chargers

  • ● OCPP 2.0.1 protocol
  • ● Cabinet Res. 81 tariff-compliant billing
  • ● Load management integrated
  • ● IP55 rated for outdoor use
04

Phase Four

Installation — The UAE Summer Plan

UAE labour law restricts outdoor work between 12:30 and 15:00 during June–September. For rooftop and cabling work, night-shift installation is therefore required during summer — adding approximately 15% to labour cost but allowing year-round project delivery without seasonal delays.

All equipment is stored in climate-controlled warehousing until installation day — batteries and inverters are never left outside for more than 24 hours, preventing pre-installation degradation from UAE heat and humidity.

Phase Five & Six

Commissioning, Handover & 25-Year O&M

DEWA conducts a commissioning witness test before issuing the final NOC and installing the bidirectional meter. sun2X coordinates the test, provides all required documentation and trains the client's facilities team on system operation and the monitoring dashboard.

After handover, sun2X's O&M contract ensures the system performs at or above the designed yield for its full 25-year lifetime. Our UAE-specific maintenance schedule addresses the unique challenges of desert heat and Shamal dust:

Quarterly Maintenance

Panel cleaning, battery filter replacement, thermal imaging scan of all electrical connections, visual inspection of mounting structures, EV charger functional test.

Annual Maintenance

Full IV curve test (module degradation verification), battery capacity test, BMS firmware update, cable re-torque inspection, inverter servicing, DEWA/ADDC billing reconciliation review.

24/7 Remote Monitoring

VPN-encrypted remote access from the sun2X Network Operations Centre. Automated alarm notifications, performance deviation alerts and monthly dashboard report covering CO₂ savings, AED savings and battery state of health (SOH).
